Why Chelsea’s Mason Mount ‘looks certain’ to miss upcoming England tie

England vs Albania

England are set to play out their final two 2022 World Cup qualifying matches this month.

The Three Lions head into their games sat top of Group I with 20 points amassed from eight games.

But whilst England are unbeaten, their recent draw with Poland back in September means that Poland can still technically overtake England atop of Group I.

As a result, Gareth Southgate is no doubt eager to field as strong a squad as possible when England play host to Albania on Friday, November 12th.

Albania are currently 3rd in England’s group and are likely to prove one of the tougher tests from the remaining five sides.

Why Chelsea’s Mason Mount is likely to miss Albania clash

However, Southgate does look set to be without one key player for the game.

Mason Mount was a regular feature for England at Euro 2020 and is clearly trusted by Southgate. But it looks as though the former Middlesbrough boss will have to make do without Mount on Friday.

When speaking before Chelsea’s clash with Burnley on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Mount had an issue with his wisdom teeth:

“It’s a tricky one. Mason was ill but the reason was his wisdom tooth, this was the reason for the feeling, a bit of an infection. He was back in training and lost a bit of weight as he couldn’t eat properly. He takes medication and let’s see. He is in the squad for tomorrow, can play some minutes, but we will need to wait for the reaction because it seems proper treatment has to be done.”

That did not stop Mount coming on as a substitute vs Burnley. But now, as per The Times, Mount looks certain to miss England’s clash with Albania after undergoing an operation to remove his wisdom teeth.
