As three teams show interest, Manchester United’s new price-tag for Jesse Lingard revealed

Lingard opts to stay in Manchester

Jesse Lingard enjoyed something of a career revival in the second half of 2020/21.

The 28-year-old majorly struggled for any sort of regular action with Manchester United over the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.

He notched just three appearances for the Red Devils, all of which came in cup competitions.

As a result, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when United allowed Lingard to depart Old Trafford on loan during the winter window.

What did prove surprising, though, was just how impressive the midfielder looked with West Ham.

In 16 league outings for David Moyes’ outfit, Lingard notched nine goals and five assists, playing a key role in the Hammers securing a Europa League berth for the 2021/22 season.

On the back of such an impressive loan stint, West Ham’s fans were no doubt hoping to see Lingard return next term on a permanent deal.

However, Lingard opted to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford over the summer, a decision that has so far proven unwise.

Lingard’s price-tag revealed

Lingard has featured five times for Manchester United in the league this term. However, those five appearances added up to just a total of 63 minutes.

In fact, across all competitions this campaign, Lingard has notched just 154 minutes of action.

And, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opting to switch to a 3-5-2 – a formation that has no wingers – of late, Lingard’s chances of playing for United have been reduced even further.

So, it is not surprising to see Lingard’s future brought up once more as we head towards the January window.

As per journalist Ekrem Konur, Manchester United are willing to sell Lingard for £12m – less than half of the £25m that was being quoted for the Englishman back in the summer.

Konur adds that three Premier League teams are following Lingard closely. These clubs are named as West Ham, Newcastle and Southampton.
