What Mikel Arteta told Arsenal chief about Youssef En-Nesyri

Arsenal linked with En-Nesyri

The Gunners currently have a number of attacking options on their books. However, the majority could certainly be improved upon.

Alexandre Lacazette has been used as Arsenal’s main no.9 under Mikel Arteta. But the Frenchman’s form is often inconsistent. He is also 30 and, most importantly, out of contract next summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another experienced option at centre-forward, but he generally performs best on the left-wing.

This leaves the inexperienced trio of Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun.

As a result, it was not too surprising to see it reported that the Gunners will try to sign a forward in the winter window, and that the position will be prioritised over bringing in a new midfielder.

This was followed by a report which stated that Arsenal’s interest in Youssef En-Nesyri continues to grow, and that Mikel Arteta and co. may decide to include Lacazette in future negotiations for the Moroccan:

What Arteta said about En-Nesyri

Reports from Spain earlier this month would then see it claimed that En-Nesyri was Arsenal’s first option to reinforce their striking spot, but the ‘high pretensions’ of Sevilla caused the Gunners to divert their focus.

Now though, fresh reports seem to suggest that Arsenal, especially Mikel Arteta, remain keen on the striker.

As per Sport Witness, citing Spanish outlet ABC Sevilla, Mikel Arteta has informed Arsenal chief Vinai Venkatesham that En-Nesyri can be the ‘benchmark of the Gunners attack’.

En-Nesyri has scored 33 and assisted two in 85 outings for Sevilla in all competitions and at 24 still seemingly has room to grow as a striker.

No potential fee is mentioned in the report from SW.
