Payoff details confirmed with Steve Bruce ‘on the brink’ of Newcastle exit/Magpies identify new sporting director

A pair of altogether noteworthy updates surrounding ongoings at Newcastle United have been forthcoming on Sunday afternoon.

A new Newcastle

The Magpies have of course taken centre stage in the English media across the last 72 hours.

This comes with the reign of terror overseen by Mike Ashley on Tyneside having finally been brought to a definitive end.

A full 18 months on from initially expressing an interest in the club, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment fund returned to the table, to reignite their pursuit of Newcastle.

In turn, it came as little surprise when a deal was swiftly found, with the outgoing Ashley understood to have pocketed a cool £300 million for his stake at St. James’ Park.

Bruce out/Rangnick in?

The momentous changing of hands at St. James’ has since resulted in understandable jubilation across Newcastle’s loyal fanbase, with the Magpies faithful having long been crying out for an owner fit to reestablish a club of such unquestionable magnitude amongst the giants of Premier League football.

For one current member of the setup on Tyneside, though, news of the club’s takeover has actually come as a blow.

The man in question? Steve Bruce.

The days since the incoming Saudi consortium took up the reins at Newcastle have seen a whole host of tacticians tipped to take their place on the club’s bench ahead of next season, amid the widespread assumption that Bruce’s days are now numbered.

And, as outlined above, on Sunday, a major development towards what now appears an imminent outcome has been confirmed.

As per the reliable Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Bruce is ‘on the brink’ of being relieved of his duties.

An insight into the kind of financial package set to be afforded to the Englishman has also been provided, with Bruce expected to pocket around £8 million.

The incoming Yasir Al-Rumayyan, meanwhile, will be the man tasked with identifying his replacement.

Last but certainly not least when it comes to Sunday’s updates surrounding Newcastle, is confirmation that the highly-regarded Ralf Rangnick – formerly of RB Leipzig and currently overseeing operations at Lokomotiv Moscow – has been identified as a potential sporting director appointment.
