Man City boss Pep Guardiola responds to Raheem Sterling future comments & provides concerning Ferran Torres injury update

Man City vs Burnley

Manchester City are back in Premier League action on Saturday.

The Sky Blues head into the first gameweek following the international break sat 3rd in the Premier League having won four, drawn two and lost one in seven so far this term.

Saturday’s tie, though, should be a nailed-on win for the Manchester outfit.

Burnley, City’s opponents this weekend, have had a torrid start to the campaign and are currently sat in the relegation zone without a single win and having scored the joint-second lowest in the division in 2021/22.

It is also worth mentioning Burnley’s dismal record against Man City. The Clarets have not beaten Man City in any competition since March of 2015. Since then, Man City have won 12 and drawn one against Burnley.

And, in the last five meetings between the two sides, City have won by an aggregate scoreline of 19-1.

Pep Guardiola on Sterling & Torres

Ahead of the game, Pep Guardiola would speak to the press on Friday afternoon.

The Spaniard would discuss a number of topics in his presser, including comments made by Raheem Sterling recently which suggested he was open to leaving Man City.

When asked about said comments, Pep stated:

“I didn’t know it. I didn’t think the club knew. Raheem is our player, hopefully he will be an incredibly important player for us. I don’t know if he wants to play more. Riyad doesn’t play and he doesn’t complain, Joao too.

“I cannot assure them, I cannot assure how many minutes each one plays. Always they have to speak on the pitch. Not Raheem, all of them. They know they are going to play minutes, all of them are involved.

“What I want from Raheem and everyone is they have to be satisfied to be here and delighted to be here. If that’s not the case he has to take the best decision for his family. I was a player, I understand completely, I wanted to play. All of them want to play every game but I cannot assure them., They have to improve every training session and be there on the pitch.”

Elsewhere, the City boss confirmed that Torres is set to be out for two to three months:

“Torres will be out two months to three months. The rest fit, Aleks and Ilkay back. They trained this week and we’re hapy, delighted they are back.”
