Tuchel provides Antonio Rudiger update ahead of Brentford vs Chelsea

Brentford vs Chelsea

Chelsea will be back in Premier League action on Saturday. The Blues will face off with Brentford in the day’s late Premier League kick-off.

Chelsea head into the game having enjoyed an excellent start to the 2021/22 campaign.

Granted, they would be dealt their first league loss of the season at the hands of Manchester City shortly before the October international break.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s side were still able to top the league table heading into the break thanks to Liverpool, who are the only side unbeaten in the PL this term, drawing three games.

And with Chelsea now set for a much, on paper, kinder run of games, it is expected that the Londoners will remain around the title picture for some time.

Brentford, though, are not expected to be a pushover. The Bees have enjoyed a fine start to their first-ever Premier League campaign, winning three, drawing three and losing one of their first seven ties – beating Arsenal and drawing with Liverpool in the process.

Tuchel provides Rudiger update

Before the game, Thomas Tuchel held his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

One of the main talking points in the presser was injury news, specifically relating to Antonio Rudiger.

The centre-back has been an integral figure at Chelsea under Tuchel but looked to pick up a back issue during the international break.

And, on Friday, Tuchel would provide an update on his fellow countryman, and unfortunately for Chelsea fans, Rudiger looks set to be sidelined, with Tuchel confirming that the centre-back, along with Christian Pulisic, is injured:

“Thiago will be back in the afternoon tomorrow, hopefully safe from this match in Brazil. We had our talk and tactical training, he missed all that. He played 90 minutes and had 12 hours of travelling so that gives you the answer.

“Toni Rudiger is injured, came back injured from the national team. Christian Pulisic is still injured. We also have doubts with Hakim Ziyech who has missed the last couple of sessions with a headache. Romelu is fine and will be involved tomorrow.”
