Lord of the Rings Star’s $70 Million Dark Fantasy Epic Is Officially Leaving Netflix

Netflix has had a huge year in 2026, especially in the sci-fi genre, with new releases continuing the momentum from the final season of Stranger Things. Netflix’s first big sci-fi project of the year was War Machine, the big-budget movie starring Alan Ritchson, famed for his role in Prime Video’s Reacher. The film picked up over 135 million views during its first 90 days on the platform, and Netflix has already confirmed that a sequel to the movie, tentatively titled War Machines, is coming soon. Netflix found another sci-fi project with The Boroughs, which was even produced by Matt and Ross Duffer (creators of Stranger Things), but the show was canceled after only one season while it was still in the top 10. Streaming can be a brutal landscape, with cancellations and removals coming on almost a daily basis.
