Religious Zealotry or Monstrous Sacrifice? This 2013 Supernatural Horror Movie Asks Which Is Worse

Folk horror has its fair share of classics as diverse as the eerie Kwaidan, 1973's brilliant The Wicker Man, the mysterious folklore tale Lamb, the genre-bending familiar nightmare of Kill List, or 2018's nightmare-inducing Possum. They're all wildly different, showcasing the diversity of folk horror as a broad horror tradition. That diversity, combined with the typical rural isolation of the genre, also allows for incisive interrogation of oppressive religious tendencies, and nowhere has that been more true than in Crawford Kinkle's Jug Face.
