Script Flipped — In This Disturbing, One-of-a-Kind Zombie Horror Movie, the Humans Are the Real Monsters
When a horror fan thinks about the average zombiemovie, classics like Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, orZombieland typically come to mind. Zombies are motivated to eat humans often due to an insatiable appetite for brains and flesh. As a result, humans fight to survive by either hiding, running away, seeking refuge, or physically fighting back. This formula defines most zombie-themed narratives, but there are exceptions. RomZoms are also a subcategory of zombie horror that often brings more nuance to the human-versus-zombie dynamic, like in Tim Burton'sCorpseBride or 2013's Warm Bodies. Zombie comedies like Shaun of the Dead and Little Monsters also occupy a decent portion of the undead genre. But Gadi Harel and Marcel Sarmiento's 2008 zombie film, Deadgirl, is neither romantic nor comedic — it's brutal, exploitative, and deplorable, while still heavily differing from the typical zombie movie formula.
