Why Thomas Partey is missing for Arsenal’s clash with Watford

Arsenal take on newly managed hornets

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will be looking to make it ten games unbeaten across all competitions with a victory over Watford, in what will be new manager Claudio Ranieri’s third game in charge.

The Gunners have impressed since a dire start to the campaign left them rock bottom, having failed to score a goal, after three games. Since then, however, they have flown up the Premier League table, and could head into the next international break in 5th place, with 20 points, should they find a way to get past Watford.

On the other hand, the Hornets are one of three teams on ten points, just above the relegation zone, and with even Norwich picking up three points this weekend, they will know that they need to scrap for every point between now and the end of the season in May.

Arteta opted for just one change from the previous game, and while Kieran Tierney has made it back into the squad, Arsenal fans will be disheartened to see that Thomas Partey has missed out altogether, joining Granit Xhaka on the sidelines and leaving Arsenal down to bare bones in midfield in the process.

Why Partey is missing for the Gunners

Now, as per the official Arsenal Twitter account, an explanation has been provided for his absence.

As per the club, the Ghanaian international misses out due to a “tight groin”.

While Arsenal fans will be relieved to hear the news that the injury is not serious, it nonetheless represents a blow to their hopes of winning the London clash at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
