Why Antonio Conte will not take training on his first day at Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs appoint Antonio Conte

Just over 24 hours after they announced that they had sacked Nuno Espirito Santo after four months in charge, Tottenham welcomed Antonio Conte to the helm in north London.

The former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager has signed an 18-month deal, with the option to extend should the relationship prove harmonious. Now back in the Premier League, he will be looking to keep up his record of winning silverware at every club he has been at, something a bridge to far even for Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

Why he will not take Tottenham training on Tuesday

Although Conte has been confirmed as the new coach, ahead of the Spurs training session this afternoon, he will not be able to take charge of it.

This is because, as per Sky Sports [See below], he is still waiting on a working visa in order to commit fully to the job. Although there is no worry about not being able to get one, it still will not come through by the time training commences, meaning that he cannot take charge of it.

This also raises questions about when his first game in charge will be, with the home tie against Vitesse on Thursday, a must win tie for Tottenham to progress from their Europa Conference League group.

This means that his first game in the dugout may not come until Sunday when Spurs travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton.
