Tottenham dealt blow ahead of Leeds as Romero picks up injury
Tottenham have been dealt a blow on the personnel front ahead of their meeting with Leeds United.
Tottenham vs Leeds
Tottenham are set to return to action this coming Sunday against Leeds United.
The game will be Antonio Conte’s third in charge of the Lilywhites, with his first a win over Vitesse and his second a drab 0-0 draw with Everton which saw Spurs fail to register a single shot on target.
The Italian, though, will be hoping for a much more positive display this weekend when they take on a Leeds side who have, so far, failed to reach the heights of their impressive 2020/21 campaign.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side will head into the weekend’s action down in 15th having won just twice all season whilst also shipping 18 goals in 11 outings.
As for Tottenham, they are currently 9th in the Premier League but could move up to 6th with a win this weekend.
Romero picks up thigh injury
Ahead of the tie, however, Tottenham have been dealt a big blow on the personnel front.
Conte has, as predicted, switched his Spurs side to a back-three formation. None of Tottenham’s current defenders barring Cristian Romero – who excelled in a similar formation for Atalanta – have any real experience in such a system.
So, Conte was no doubt eager to ensure Romero was fit and available for the clash on Sunday as he is probably the Lilywhite defender most confident in a three.
However, in a big blow for Spurs, Romero would pick up a thigh injury during Argentina’s meeting with Brazil late on Tuesday.
At the time of writing, the severity of the injury is not yet known:
These international breaks… Romero picks up a thigh injury for Argentina against Brazil. So important for #THFC that’s not serious. Severity not yet known.
