Manchester United linked with new managers

Manchester United now face the task of finding a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s departure on Sunday.

Solskjaer was only officially relieved of his duties on Sunday morning, but we have already seen several names linked with the Old Trafford post.

These include Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino:

Ed Woodward staying put

For the time being, however, Manchester United look set to have an interim boss till the end of the season, as confirmed by the club on Sunday in their announcement that Ole had left the club:

Michael Carrick will now take charge of the team for forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

Manchester United can confirm that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as Manager.

Said statement clearly shows a lack of planning at the highest level at Old Trafford, with said decision basically writing off the 2021/22 season already.

Now, as per Sky Sports News, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward could delay his departure from the club to oversee the appointment of an interim and then long-term replacement for OGS.

Woodward was expected to step down from his role in December of this year following the failed attempt to start a European Super League.

Elsewhere, the report from Sky also adds that whoever comes into the role of interim manager will be expected to work with the existing coaching and support staff.

Ole, along with the coaching staff who now appear set to remain at the club for the rest of this season, seemingly lost the faith of the United players. It was reported recently that United players did not believe Solskajer and his staff were good enough to elevate the team to compete at the top:

Players did not believe that Solskjaer and his backroom staff were good enough to elevate the team and compete at the top level, while training sessions had been described by a source as ‘too British’.

So, with essentially the same infrastructure and personnel expected to remain at the club for the rest of 2021/22, it does appear as though United’s campaign is basically already written off.
