Revealed: Manchester City’s stance on Raheem Sterling leaving in January
Raheem Sterling falls out of favour at Manchester City
Towards the end of last season, Raheem Sterling fell out of favour at Manchester City.
The Englishman, once one of City’s star men, was being used as a bit-part player in the Sky Blues’ second team.
Instead, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan were all being deployed ahead of Sterling in City’s bigger games.
In the league, Sterling did actually continue to keep playing regularly, but this was due to City already having the title wrapped up and Pep instead opting to use his first-team in the key Champions League clashes.
Sterling’s reduced role has continued into the 2021/22 season as well.
Across City’s last six league outings, Sterling has started just one game, notching just 39 minutes of action across the other five ties.
Manchester City’s stance on Sterling move in January
With the 26-year-old remaining on the fringes and having just one year left on his contract come the summer, speculation around Sterling’s future has already begun to swirl, with FC Barcelona one of the names most heavily linked of late:
City are now resigned to losing Sterling, with contract talks shelved. Sterling’s always wanted to play in Spain and Barcelona are interested. City want around £45-£50m, similar to the price they got for Sane. https://t.co/rxdGs7X3jn

However, it does not look as though Barcelona, nor any other club, will be poaching the England international from the Etihad in January.
As per ESPN, Man City will resist any approach from Barcelona to sign Sterling in January, adding that the Sky Blues will not consider any offer for the winger, be it permanent or on loan, during the winter window because he remains a key part of Guardiola’s squad.
Man City are looking to go back in for Kane in January.
Sterling won’t be allowed to go.
