Rangers star tipped to follow Steven Gerrard to Villa Park in January

Gerrard announced as new Villa boss

News broke on Thursday morning that Steven Gerrard had left Scottish champions Rangers, moving to the midlands in order to take charge of Aston Villa.

The decision to replace Dean Smith with the former Liverpool legend came after Southampton condemned Villa to a fifth straight defeat, leaving them in 15th place in the Premier League and a long way from their European ambitions.

Gerrard has not yet managed at Premier League level before, but has impressed in his three and a half year spell in Scotland, and will be hoping to continue his upwards trajectory until the Liverpool job becomes available, set to be in 2024.

He will have the chance to kick off his Premier League reign with a clash with Brighton next Saturday afternoon.

Gerrard targets January reinforcements

Now, as most managers do, Gerrard is looking to create an early impression on the Villa squad, with reinforcements in the January transfer window seemingly likely.

And as per reports in Scotland, it is a former Arsenal talent, and current Rangers star, that he has his eyes set on, in the form of Glen Kamara.

According to the Daily Record, Villa have been strong admirers of the Rangers man for a long time, and now have the opportunity to pull the move off with the addition of Gerrard.

The 26-year-old has made 123 appearances for the Gers since joining the club from fellow Scottish side Dundee, scoring 5 goals in that time. However, it seems as though his time at Ibrox ould be approaching its end.
