Newcastle watching Lille forward who is currently outscoring Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1

Newcastle are interested in the services of Lille striker Jonathan David, according to reports from France.

Newcastle have money to spend

Eddie Howe was named as Newcastle’s new head coach earlier this month.

Howe joins the club facing the mammoth task of keeping the North East outfit in the top-flight.

And at present, that seems pretty unlikely after 11 games of the campaign. Newcastle would once again fail to pick up a win in their last outing before the November international break, instead drawing with Brighton.

Whilst that result in of itself is not terrible, it is worth remembering that Newcastle are yet to win a single game this season and are the only side in the division yet to pick up a win this term.

Newcastle also have one of the worst defences in the Premier League at present, conceding 24 in 11 – only Norwich (26) have shipped more goals.

Given the size of the task facing Howe, it seems imperative that Newcastle spend well in the upcoming January transfer window.

And Howe is seemingly being backed to do so, with it reported that the former Bournemouth man would have £50m to spend in the winter market, as well as bringing in some players on loan.

Newcastle want Jonathan David

Now, one of the players potentially being looked at by Howe and co. ahead of the winter window has been revealed.

As per a report from French outlet le10sport, Lille need to bring in money, and offers for all players will be considered.

One such player who le10sport claim is likely to leave Lille if a good offer comes in is Jonathan David.

David is having a superb 2021/22 so far, netting eight goals in 13 Ligue 1 outings, which makes him the joint-top scorer in the French top-flight at present and sees him two goals ahead of Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts.

And, as per le10sport, David is closely watched by Newcastle, who are said to have already made their intentions known for the January window.
