Manchester United and England outcast keen to leave Old Trafford

Manchester United’s rocky spell

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Red Devils are having a tricky time of it of late.

Saved on several occasions by Cristiano Ronaldo brilliance, they have nonetheless been embarrassed in back to back home ties against their two biggest rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City.

For a club that spent over 100 million pounds, on top of the incredibly expensive current squad, the performances and results do not cut it. They currently sit in 6th place in the Premier League table, nine points behind league leaders Chelsea, and six behind Manchester City.

Even Arsenal, who were 20th 3 games into the season, find themselves three points clear of the Red Devils, who have taken four points from a possible 18 across their last six domestic ties. To rub it in further, the club were unceremoniously dumped out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham United in the third round, meaning that another chance of silverware has gone.

It has not all been bad, however. One bright spark has been the busy David De Gea, who has returned to his best form, and has kept many of the scorelines respectable.

Henderson considering his future

This has had a knock-on effect, however. No.2 goalkeeper Dean Henderson is now thought to be seriously considering his future at Old Trafford, with the 24 year old having been dropped from the England squad since Euro 2020, and having only played once this season, in that fateful Carabao Cup tie.

As per the Daily Mail, it has got to the point where he wants to depart for first-team football, with Newcastle a potential option. The report suggests:

He would consider leaving in January — Newcastle are understood to be one of the options — but United are unlikely to allow him to depart mid-season.

At Newcastle, he would certainly be the undisputed first choice, and would face plenty of shots, as well as being part of the new owners’ project. January may be a bit too soon though.
