Former Manchester United cult hero reveals what will get Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked in the Manchester Derby
Dimitar Berbatov has recently spoken out about Manchester United’s clash with Manchester City.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs a result
Following their humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool, it was reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had three games to save his Manchester United job.
So far, he has managed a comfortable 3-0 win over a lackluster Tottenham Hotspur, who subsequently parted ways with their inept manager, and were indebted to a last-minute Cristiano Ronaldo strike to snatch a point against Atalanta in Bergamo.

With a change of formation to a back three, which Solskjaer suuggesting was temporary, it is clear that the Norwegian has been scrambling in order to save his job. With both Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane out of action for the Manchester Derby, however, a return to a back four seems likely, which will show the true ability of Solskjaer to manage the Manchester United squad.
As such, while a result against the Premier League champions, and their noisy neighbours, is not necessary, a good performance certainly is.
Dimitar Berbatov speaks out
Speaking to The Sun, ex-Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov revealed that he would expect Solskjaer to be sacked should the Red Devils turn in a performance similar to that against Liverpool.
The Bulgarian forward scored 56 times in 149 appearances for the Manchester outfit across a 5 year period, and claimed:
“If United approach this City game the same as the Liverpool game, then it will be the same result.
“And if it is the same result and performance, that’s going to be too much for everybody.
“I hope and I don’t think it will be like that – otherwise it will be a double embarrassment and it would show Ole didn’t learn anything from Liverpool which shouldn’t be the case.”
If the result is a negative one for Manchester United, should it be the end of the road for Solskjaer, and with Antonio Conte now out of the managerial race to replace him, who would they target?
