Following Antonio Conte to Tottenham, Newcastle United tipped to open talks with two former Premier League bosses

Tottenham seemingly set to appoint Antonio Conte

News broke in the early hours of Monday morning that Tottenham Hotspur had parted ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, following the side picking up just 6 points from a possible 21 since August, and severe fan unrest in the stadium throughout their latest 3-0 defeat, at the hands of Manchester United.

A club statement read:

The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

The club have, unlike in the summer, moved fast to find a new manager, however, with Antonio Conte now widely expected to take the hot seat in north London.

This has, in turn, taken the most prized managerial asset off the market, dealing a blow to Manchester United and Newcastle United in the process.

Newcastle target Eddie Howe

As such, Newcastle have pivoted away from their unrealistic ‘dream‘ choice, with Conte unlikely to ever have joined an outfit that, despite being under new wealthy ownership, sit in the relegation zone.

Now, as per Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Newcastle are looking at former Bournemouth and Burnley manager Eddie Howe.

Howe, of course, has plenty of top-flight experience, and has been out of work since he was sacked by Bournemouth in 2020 after failing to keep the club in the Premier League. He would surely jump at the chance to get back into management, and could offer a safe stopgap for the new owners.

Alternatively, reports in Spain have linked former Arsenal boss Unai Emery with the role, with the Magpies allegedly “keen to pay a huge transfer fee to get Emery out of his Villareal contract”.

Would Emery be keen on a return to England, given his lack of success last time out?
