Barcelona targeting four players – including two Chelsea stars – ahead of next season
An insight into the players FC Barcelona are set to target ahead of the 2022/23 campaign has been provided.
Xavi returns to FC Barcelona
Xavi Hernandez has officially returned to FC Barcelona, this time as their manager.
The Spaniard has taken over after Ronald Koeman was sacked last month following poor starts to both the La Liga and Champions League campaign.
Xavi returns to his first-ever club in a time of crisis. All of the big stars from Barcelona’s past have either departed for pastures new or are, in the case of Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets, past their best and in need of replacing.
Barca’s awful recruitment over the last five or six years has also left them with a fairly poor squad that can only really be saved if someone is able to get the best of the latest batch of La Masia graduates like Ansu Fati and Pedri.
In the league, meanwhile, Barcelona are currently sat down in 9th place – a full 11 points off top spot.
Their Champions League campaign also hangs in the balance, with a loss to Benfica in their next European outing likely to condemn them to a spot in the Europa League.
Barcelona targeting four players
Xavi’s first tie at Barca boss will take place on Saturday when his side face off with Espanyol.
Ahead of that game, an insight into Barcelona’s transfer plans over the next year has been provided.
As already mentioned, Barcelona’s recruitment over the last several years has left them with a pretty poor squad that’s only real positive is their up-and-coming stars.
Now though, it appears La Blaugrana are looking to add several fresh stars to their squad for next season.
According to Spanish journalist Gerrard Romero, speaking on his latest Twitch broadcast, Barcelona want all of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Jose Louis Gaya and Karim Adeyemi for next season.
