The player Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel ‘would give his all to work with’ revealed

A recent report from Spain has suggested that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to work with Southampton midfielder, James Ward-Prowse.

Tuchel likes Ward-Prowse

James Ward-Prowse is a product of Southampton’s academy and has, so far, spent his entire career on their books.

In that time the 26-year-old has become an integral member of the Saints’ squad, with his ability from dead balls a particular bright point.

The midfielder has scored 35 and assisted 42 in all competitions for the Saints and is now their captain. Ward-Prowse’s impressive displays of late have also seen him earn several England call-ups, though he did eventually miss out on the final Euro 2020 squad.

Regardless, the Englishman is now one of Southampton’s most important players and, as mentioned above, appears to be garnering interest from Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel.

Spanish outlet Fichajes write on Wednesday that:

James Ward-Prowse is the player Thomas Tuchel would give his all to work with.

The report adds that Ward-Prowse’s price is around €50m.

Should Chelsea sign Ward-Prowse?

Should Chelsea attempt to make a move for the Southampton man though?

After Saul Niguez’s poor start to life in England, as well as the fact N’Golo Kante is getting on in years and becoming more injury-prone, it does seem logical that the Blues add another central midfielder to their ranks.

However, the Londoners already have two perfectly good options to go into their side.

Both Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour have been loaned out by Chelsea this season to Crystal Palace and Norwich.

Gallagher is currently having a more successful campaign, which is not surprising given Norwich are dead bottom of the PL.

But if Gallagher is able to keep his current form up across 2021/22, why don’t Chelsea just hand the Palace loanee a chance to impress at Stamford Bridge next campaign instead of signing another player?
