Everton dealt blow as Lucas Digne withdraws from France squad

Lucas Digne withdraws from France squad

France and Belgium faced off in a UEFA Nations League semi-final clash on Thursday.

Les Bleus came out on top by three goals to two. Lucas Digne would be included in the matchday squad, but did not make it off the bench.

This would be followed by a report that Digne was not risked as he was complaining of a hamstring issue pre-match:

It has since been confirmed by Everton that Digne has now been released from the national side, of course ruling him out of the Nations League final vs Spain this weekend.

Everton vs West Ham

How long Digne may be out for is not yet known, though Everton will be no doubt desperate to have Digne available next weekend.

The Frenchman is the Toffees’ only really decent senior left-back, and him missing out vs West Ham on Sunday, October 17th, would be a big blow.

Everton will head into the clash having had a fine start to the season under Rafa Benitez. The Merseysiders have won four, drawn two and lost one in the league so far this season.

This has seen Everton climb up to 5th place early in the campaign, with only two points separating them and Chelsea.

However, West Ham are not expected to be a pushover, and Digne’s absence would most certainly increase Everton’s chances of losing to the Hammers.
