Claudio Ranieri lined up as a surprise managerial candidate for Watford

Watford part ways with Munoz

Watford confirmed earlier today that they had parted ways with head coach Xisco Munoz after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds United.

In a statement put out on social media, they said:

The Board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving.

The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season’s promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.

No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new Head Coach.

Munoz leaves Watford sitting in 14th place, with seven points from seven games, while whoever comes into the hotseat will face a baptism of fire in their opening encounters.

Ranieri a surprise candidate

Just an hour after the announcement was made, Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano have reported that Premier League-winning manager Claudio Ranieri has emerged as a surprise candidate for the role of the Hornets top man.

As per Di Marzio, the Italian is “ready to come back to the Premier League” after his last spell, which was largely an unsuccessful one with Fulham in the 2018-19 season.

He is however, of course, the man who famously guided Leicester City to their against the odds title win in 2015-16.

Would he be the right man to keep Watford up this season?
