After signing new Barcelona contract, Pedri’s astronomical release clause revealed

Pedri signs new Barcelona contract

In what has proved to be a difficult 18 months for Barcelona, Pedri has emerged as a shining light. Signed for 18 million pounds from Las Palmas in 2019 (when he was just 16 years old), Pedri has already racked up 56 appearances for Barcelona and another 10 for the Spanish national team, including performances that saw him named young player of the tournament at Euro 2020.

Heading into the current campaign, however, Pedri had just one year left on his Barcelona contract, something that the club have moved swiftly to rectify. And today, the Blaugrana announced that their hottest property had signed a massive five year deal with the club, keeping him in claret and blue until at least 2026.

Barcelona insert massive release clause

To truly ensure that Pedri is going nowhere, however, Barcelona have added a record release clause to his deal. As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, this figure stands at 1 billion euros, which will surely prevent clubs even trying to tempt the Spaniard away from Catalonia.

In Spain, release clauses in contracts are mandatory, and Barcelona have been stung by this before, when PSG activated Neymar’s then staggering 222 million euro release clause, causing the club to lose one of their most prized assets against their will.

Therefore, it will come as little surprise to see that they are doing all that they can to prevent this from happening again.
