Christopher Nolan Officially Beats His ‘Dark Knight’ Box Office Record After 18 Years
Just over a month into its theatrical run, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is continuing to defy expectations at the box office. The movie delivered the biggest opening-weekend haul of the Oscar-winning director's career, and subsequently became his third film to gross more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The Odyssey has now overtaken The Dark Knight to become Nolan's top-grossing movie at the domestic box office, and in doing so, has broken into an elite all-time list. The Dark Knight was hailed as an industry-altering hit back in 2008, introducing audiences to a new kind of blockbuster that was aped by virtually every studio for years to come. The film's apparent snub at the Oscars is generally seen as the main reason the Academy expanded the Best Picture nominees the following year.
