‘Sender’ Review: ‘Severance’ and ‘Pluribus’ Stars Lead a Trippy Thriller That Can't Deliver on Its Best Ideas

At a SXSW screening of his feature debut, Sender, writer-director Russell Goldman said that the idea for his first film came from Jamie Lee Curtis getting the wrong package delivered to her home. Goldman, who used to work as Curtis’ assistant, was told by Curtis that this fairly common occurrence could be a film. Goldman previously took this idea and made it into the 2022 short, Return to Sender, starring Fargo’s Allison Tolman, and now, he’s expanded it into feature-length with Sender. The result is a movie that posits that maybe such ideas shouldn’t be expanded into larger packages.
