Where Liverpool are looking to strengthen in January revealed

Liverpool suffer first loss of the season

Liverpool’s 25 game unbeaten run came unstuck as David Moyes’ West Ham side condemned them to a 3-2 defeat.

Goals from Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma added to an own goal from Alisson, to ensure that the three points remained in east London, and Jurgen Klopp’s side’s 25 game unbeaten run was ended.

The result takes them up to 3rd place, and level on points with Manchester City after 11 games in the Premier League, as the bubbles show no signs of popping any time soon.

While Divock Origi came off the bench to net a consolation goal, Sadio Mane remained on the pitch despite a pair of glaring misses and an all-round poor performance, perhaps as a result of the number of games that he and Mo Salah have both played in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano outlines where Liverpool are looking to strengthen

It is in these wide areas that Liverpool are allegedly looking to strengthen this January, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

With both Salah and Mane set to head to AFCON on boxing day, and potentially not returning until February, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be short in the wide areas, with only Origi and Takumi Minamino senior options.

On his here we go podcast, Romano revealed that Liverpool were looking for wingers this January, but would not be forced into panic buys. With the knowledge that AFCON was upcoming this year, it is somewhat bemusing that they failed to strengthen this area in the summer, while letting Xherdan Shaquiri leave.

With the Premier league so tight this year, failing to get in cover could mean the difference between a winners medal, and having to settle for best of the rest.
