Video: Manchester United star makes cameo appearance as a radish in Christmas advert

Rashford receives MBE but struggles on the pitch

It has been a tough few months for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Missing a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout, he then went under the knife for a shoulder injury that had been giving him pain for much of 2021.

As such, he is yet to complete 90 minutes of football at a competitive level this season, although he did net against Tottenham from the substitutes bench.

His lack of match sharpness has also seen him pull out of the England squad in order to work on his fitness in Manchester during this international break, meaning that he will not join up with his compatriots for the key clashes against Albania and San Marino.

However, despite being unable to attend international duty, Rashford has been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his charitable endeavours in the last 18 months around free school meals.

Today, he has hit the headlines for a very different reason.

Marcus Radishford makes cameo appearance in Aldi UK Christmas advert

With over 6 weeks to go until Christmas, adverts are nonetheless beginning to emerge urging shoppers to make the most of festive offers at various UK supermarkets. One such advert, for low-price supermarket Aldi, includes a cameo from the Manchester United man, referred to as Marcus Radishford, and depicted as (you’ve guessed it), a Radish.

Based very loosely on the idea of Ebenezeer Scrooge, the Christmas spirit flies Scrooge (represented by a banana) over Rashford’s head, saying:

“Look, there’s Marcus Radishford, he’s always helping children”

To which Rashford replies:

“Merry Christmas Kevin”.

The Manchester United man joins a host of footballers, including Mason Mount and Jack Grealish, in starring in Christmas adverts for this year, even if the spirit at Old Trafford currently is far fm festive.
