The two new candidates linked as potential new Manchester United boss with Solskjaer set to depart

Solskjaer expected to depart

Although nothing has officially been announced by the club, it is widely expected that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be releived of his Manchester United duties in the coming hours.

This comes after yet another defeat, this time to lowly Watford, where the Red Devils capitulated 4-1 at Vicarage Road. It could have been more, too, with Ismaila Sarr twice missing from the spot (his spot-kick had to be retaken).

Defeat follows a previous run where the Red Devils picked up just 4 points from a possible 18, while suffering heavy defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool at Old Trafford.

With Chelsea and Arsenal coming up in their next run of fixtures, they will be hoping that this trend does not continue, as they look to recover what they can from an already ruined season.

But who will replace Ole?

Two new names enter the fray

Now, of course, attention turns to who could come in to take charge. The likes of Erik Ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino have all been linked with the role.

Now, as per the Athletic, two new names have entered the picture. The first is to take temporary charge, in the form of former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc, who has experience managing both PSG and the French national team.

The second? Sevilla boss Julien Lopetegui. The Spaniard is perhaps most well known for his short-lived stint in charge of Spain, which he was sacked from two days before the 2018 World Cup.

Would either of these appointments have the desired effect, or do Manchester United need to look elsewhere?
