The bizzare candidate Sir Alex Ferguson has backed to become next Manchester United manager

Pochettino edging closer?

With news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been removed from his position in charge on Sunday morning, speculation has continued to circulate about who will take the hotseat.

Most recently, the Manchester Evening News have suggested that the Red Devils are “confident” of making current PSG and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino their next manager.

As per Samuel Luckhurst:

“Pochettino’s willingness to move to United mid-season is significant as United outlined their intention to appoint an interim manager for the remainder of the campaign before a permanent manager is installed in the summer.”

That is not, however, who legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson is allegedly angling for.

Alex Ferguson’s bizarre option

Sir Alex Ferguson, although officially retired for some time now, still has his finger very much in the Manchester United pie.

He was, for instance, responsible for convincing Cristiano Ronaldo to return, while his opinions on managerial choices are very rarely discarded lightly.

This time, however, may be different.

As per Football Insider, the former United boss has “thrown his weight behind” the idea of appointing former United player Steve Bruce to the role.

Bruce, for his part, would be keen on the job, and ‘believes he could help stabilise the dressing room’, as per Andy Mitten of The Athletic.

However, Bruce has just departed Newcastle, leaving them winless and bottom of the table, and surely does not have the credentials to manage a side as big as Manchester United, who are aiming for silverware.

Manchester United connections aside, it makes little sense, making it all the more bizarre that he has the backing of Sir Alex.

Would he do better than Poch?
