Solskjaer provides injury updates on Varane & Lindelof ahead of Man United vs Man City

Manchester United vs Manchester City

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off is set to see the first Manchester derby of the season play out.

The clash will take place at Old Trafford and the atmosphere is expected to be heated, especially given the current pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Man United have had a poor start to the season and would recently be smashed 5-0 by bitter rivals, Liverpool.

The Red Devils did then look to have turned a corner when they beat a fairly lackluster Tottenham side, who have since sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and replaced him with Antonio Conte, 3-0.

However, Man United looked back to their average selves earlier this week when they only just scraped a 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.

But whilst there is an expectation that Man City will tear United apart, Pep Guardiola actually has a pretty poor record against Ole.

The Citizens have won just one of the last five meetings between the two sides in all competitions, and you have to go all the way back to April of 2019 to find the last time City beat United in the league.

Varane & Lindelof latest

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Solskjaer would speak to the press on Friday.

When doing so, the Norwegian would provide updates on Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.

On Varane, Solskjaer is expecting the Frenchman to be out for around four or five weeks:

“With all the technology now you expect him to be out for four or five weeks with the scans. It’s a blow for us. Raphael has come in and been really really influential. Eric came in last time and was excellent. That’s why we have a big squad and cope with absentees.”

Meanwhile, on Lindelof, the United boss stated:

“He’s still a doubt, but hopefully, he can come back in tomorrow and say he’s ready… I would expect him to be ready, put it that way but I can’t promise you.”
