Senegal boss speaks out over injury picked up by Liverpool’s Sadio Mane

Senegal national team boss Aliou Cisse has, on Thursday evening, provided an update on the wellbeing of Sadio Mane.

Early exit

Concern over the fitness of Liverpool standout Mane of course quickly spread earlier today.

This came with the former Southampton man having turned attentions back towards matters on the international front, in Senegal’s latest 2022 World Cup qualifier.

The Lions of Teranga made the trip to Togo, eventually emerging with a hard-fought share of the spoils owing to Habib Diallo’s equaliser deep into injury-time.

Mane, however, lasted less than half an hour at the Stade de Kégué, before being forced to limp out of proceedings.

‘A precaution’

In turn, amid an opening to the campaign which has seen a whole host of the club’s stars face lengthy spells on the treatment table, fears no doubt spread like wildfire back on the red half of Merseyside.

Liverpool are already without the services of one key attacker owing to Roberto Firmino’s hamstring injury, meaning another could prove catastrophic when it comes to the Reds’ Premier League title hopes.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 stalemate, Senegal boss Aliou Cisse was therefore inevitably drawn on Mane’s wellbeing.

And, in a major boost for Jurgen Klopp and co., Cisse went on to confirm that the prolific wide-man was simply hauled off versus Togo ‘as a precaution’.

Mane’s problem is therefore understood to be ‘nothing serious’:
