Official: Xavi unveiled as new Barcelona boss

Xavi officially unveiled as new Barca boss

Following the departure of Ronald Koeman, former legendary midfielder Xavi Hernandez has been announced as the new Barcelona boss, following an agreement having been reached with Qatar side Al-Sadd to release him from his services.

Unsurprisingly, the La Masia graduate was well received by the crowded Camp Nou, with a sense of intrigue surrounding the appointment.

He was then shown shaking hands with club president Joan Laporta, as he went on to sign his new Barcelona contract.

Will he be able to prove more successful than Ronald Koeman, or will it prove a step too far, too soon for the Spaniard?

Potential first signing already linked?

Now, just hours into taking the job, rumours have already emerged for who Xavi is looking to make his first signing for the Blaugrana.

As revealed previously, the incoming manager has reportedly “already decided” to axe loan striker Luuk de Jong, who joined the club on deadline day. Now, as a potential replacement, Xavi is said to be a fan of a man he worked with in Qatar, in the form of striker Baghdad Bounedjah.

With Sergio Aguero also out for three months with a heart irregularity, the man who has scored 11 goals in 9 games under Xavi in the Qatari Stars League could prove a cheap and reliable option for the Catalan club.

When speaking on the possibility, Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi said:

“The current Barca is not the Barcelona of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta. In our timing, I don’t know if Xavi has in mind to bring him back to Barcelona, but I know he likes him a lot,”

Could we see him line up in the famous Barca colours come January?
