Michail Antonio outlines Liverpool weakness West Ham exploited to secure win

West Ham see off Liverpool

West Ham continued their superb run of form under David Moyes this past Sunday.

The Hammers played host to a Liverpool side who were still unbeaten in all competitions this campaign.

That was until they faced West Ham, who managed to come away with a huge 3-1 win at the London Stadium.

West Ham would take an early lead in the tie thanks to an Alisson own goal:

Liverpool would then pull one back shortly before half-time through a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick.

However, West Ham then scored a second via Pablo Fornals and a third via a Kurt Zouma header to secure a massive 3-1 victory.

Michail Antonio pinpoints Liverpool weakness

Now, following the game, Michail Antonio has explained the weakness of Liverpool that they targeted:

“The whole plan was to stick it in straight on the keeper and we’ve just challenged.

“We saw that they struggle with the ball coming in on them and all we had to do was keep the ball away from Virgil. It’s worked out for us today.

“We have to give credit to the coaching staff. They have a look at the weaknesses and the strengths of each team we come up against and in different games, we come up with different strategies.

“Today the plan was to push straight on the keeper and today no one marked me on the keeper so I’m there to block him and make sure he can’t come out and catch it. You then saw what happened today: goals.”

Given that West Ham were able to score two of their three goals from corners, the first of which actually saw Alisson put the ball into his own net, it is fair to say that West Ham’s plan worked very, very well.
