Liverpool dealt transfer blow as Dortmund chief speaks out on Bellingham interest

Liverpool credited with an interest in Jude Bellingham

As part of their squad rebuild, Liverpool were credited with a strong interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, who is continuing to follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps and pull up trees in the Bundesliga.

Eyebrows were raised when Dortmund shelled out 30 million pounds for the young talent, and even more so when selling club Birmingham City decided to retire his shirt number, despite him being just 16. But, it has proved a coup.

So far, Bellingham had already notched an impressive 62 outings for Dortmund, in which he has scored seven goals and provided 10 assists.

The teenager has also impressed on the biggest stage, including putting on some superb displays vs Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season.

And, whilst he is not yet a guaranteed starter, Bellingham has already begun to showcase what an asset he will be for England or the next decade and beyond.

He was tipped to be joining Liverpool in the near future, but Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has poured cold water on the idea.

Zorc speaks out

As reported in Bild [via the Metro], Michael Zorc has poured cold water on the idea of Bellingham pitching up on Merseyside any time soon, pointing out that they have already gone through n transfer battle to secure his services:

‘When we signed Jude last year, many top clubs were interested in him”

He continued:

“He made a conscious decision in favour of Borussia Dortmund and the concept that we presented to him. His development in Dortmund is far from over.”

‘His head is very clear and he has a good environment that helps him put his rapid development into perspective. That Jude is already showing consistency in his achievements was not to be expected when we signed him.’

Many, of course, will have heard similar surrounding previous Dortmund exports Jadon Sancho and Christian Pulisic, who have found their way to the Premier League. With Bellingham however, there is still plenty of time for the 18 year old to have a famous career without agitating for a move already.
