How much Brendan Rodgers will be allowed to spend in January should he become Manchester United boss
Manchester United linked with Rodgers
Manchester United are in a horrid rut and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while well-intentioned, is not the man to get them out of it and back to title-winning ways.
It is blindingly obvious to seemingly everyone except the Manchester United board, who continue to stick by their man humiliation after humiliation.
As a result of the chaos, it is unsurprising to see managers linked with the role, and among the frontrunners is Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, who is allegedly already househunting in the area.
But, would the former Liverpool boss get any financial backing to take the job?
January budget revealed
For those Manchester United fans begging Rodgers to bring the likes of Wilfried Ndidi or Youri Tielemans with him to Old Trafford, it is set to be nothing but disappointment. This comes as the Sun report that the Irishman will not be given any funds whatsoever to spend in January.
The reasoning? Well, as per the same source:
“United’s board believes the squad is far better than their sixth place in the Prem suggests — and throwing more money at it is not the answer.”
This would seemingly be consistent across whichever manager is at the helm come January, which could signal a quiet window for the Red Devils. It is also unclear as to whether any potential manager would be able to sell players and use those profits to reinvest.
While the Manchester United board may be correct and the squad is indeed better than their current predicament, it is certainly also fair to say that it would be entirely surprising if a midfield trio of Scott McTominay and Fred were to win the club silverware, and compete against the very biggest sides.
However, until the end of the season perhaps Rodgers would be able to steady the ship, before returning to Leicester to bring in some big names.
