As one Liverpool defender bags a trio of assists, another limps off to hand Klopp a headache before Arsenal

Monday night proved an altogether contrasting one when it comes to the fortunes of two of Liverpool’s star defenders.

TAA dazzles

First up came Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Amid England’s efforts to secure their spot at next year’s World Cup, the gifted full-back was handed a start on the right of Gareth Southgate’s back-4, in a final day meeting with San Marino.

And to say that he went on to take full advantage of his latest outing on the international stage would be something of an understatement.

En route to an eventual 10 (yes, TEN) nil victory for the Three Lions, Alexander-Arnold racked up a trio of assists, proving himself once more as one of the finest crossers of the ball in world football:

On the flip side of things, however, came Andy Robertson’s appearance in Scotland’s clash with Denmark.

Steve Clarke’s men, for their part, finished out their World Cup qualification campaign on a high, downing table-toppers Denmark by two goals to nil to gear up for next year’s playoffs in style.

But Robertson, after starting at left-back, was forced to limp out of proceedings late on.

After pulling up with what appeared to be a hamstring problem, the former Hull City man was tended to by Scotland’s medical team, before eventually making way for Scott McKenna.

Jurgen Klopp, for his part, will no doubt be desperate for positive news regarding the wellbeing of his key stopper over the days ahead, with Liverpool in the midst of something of a personnel crisis ahead of a showdown with high-flying Arsenal this weekend.
