The one reason that Brendan Rodgers would turn down the Newcastle United job revealed

New-look Newcastle thought to be after Rodgers

Last week, many Newcastle fans’ dreams were made a reality when Mike Ashley’s 14-year reign in charge of the Tyneside club came to an end, and the Saudi Public Investment Fund took the reigns, backed with a hefty budget.

Now backed by the richest owners in World football, but sitting in the relegation zone without a win, the Magpies are sure to be spending money in January in order to avoid a somewhat humiliating relegation to England’s second tier.

In addition, they seem set to part ways with current boss Steve Bruce expected to be sacked in the not too distant future.

And as per the normally reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, the man in pole position to take over was Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, reports from the always reliable John Percy of the Telegraph have since denied this, claiming that the Irishman has “no interest in the job” and that he was “fully committed to Leicester”.

The reason Rodgers would reject Newcastle revealed

However, as per the Daily Mail, there is an altogether ulterior motive to Rodgers’ decision to stay in charge of the Foxes this time around. As per Craig Hope, the Leicester boss has done enough to be on the shortlist to replace Pep Guardiola, who has announced he will be leaving Manchester City in 2023, although he later backtracked.

Rodgers was allegedly discussed as a potential City boss all the way back in 2013, when the club were searching for a replacement for Roberto Mancini, before they eventually settled on Manuel Pellegrini.

With this in mind, would Rodgers be right to reject the Tyneside club’s new owners advances, or will they soon find themselves level with City in the Premier League?
