Manchester United fans will love what Raphael Varane did ahead of the Nations League final

Raphael Varane joins Manchester United

In a move that was largely overshadowed by moves for Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane also joined Manchester United last summer, for a fee of around 36 million pounds.

The World Cup and multiple Champions League winner was down to his final year in Madrid, and was seeking a new challenge. Hence the switch to join fellow Frenchman Paul Pogba at Old Trafford, a partnership that will be enjoyed for at least the 2021/22 season and perhaps beyond, depending on Pogba’s contract decision.

And Varane has hit the ground running, helping his new side to three wins and two draws from his opening six league appearances, striking up a good partnership with captain Harry Maguire in the process.

Varane demonstrates his leadership qualities even without the armband

Ahead of the Nations League final against Spain too, Varane proved that you don’t have to wear the captain’s armband to be a leader for your side. In a passionate speech ahead of kick-off, he can be seen motivating his teammates to ensure that they leave everything on the pitch.

Varane said:

Come on guys, we have a f*cking final, a f*cking opportunity to win a trophy with the national team.

Let’s not forget. 90 min focus, we are staying in the game. We play our game, nothing is gonna derail us from our game. 90 min, all in. Let’s go get it. Together.

In Varane, it seems as though Manchester United have yet another leader in a dressing room that already contains Ronaldo and Maguire, something that can only be good for the general direction of the side, and something that could well translate effectively onto the pitch.
