Liverpool’s Fabinho issues update on his and Alisson’s selection status for Watford tie

Liverpool set to face Watford

Liverpool are set to kick off this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures with a Saturday lunchtime trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford. The Hornets are now under new management, with Claudio Ranieri taking the reigns after Xisco Munoz was sacked during the international break, so will be looking to put on a show for their home fans.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, on the other hand, are flying after a brilliant start to the season that has seen them remain the only unbeaten side in the division thus far. Sitting second behind Chelsea, they know that a win is imperative as they look to keep pace with the early challengers.

However, they may have to do this with a threadbare squad.

Duo unsure on availability

Two players that Liverpool will be left sweating on are Fabinho and Alisson, both of whom are on international duty with Brazil. The Selecao face Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier just 36 hours ahead of the clash with Watford, casting doubt over their availability for the Premier League tie.

And now, it appears that Fabinho has almost ruled the idea out. Speaking to Brazilian press, he revealed:

“I believe that this Liverpool match against Watford will be very hard for us. I don’t think we will play, either Alisson or myself. ”

While this comes as a blow, it has been softened by the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota are both expected to be available, with their availability also having been in doubt.

Can Liverpool pick up a much-needed three points even without their star Brazilians?
