PSG dealt loss by Rennes

PSG were back in Ligue 1 action on Sunday afternoon. Mauricio Pochettino’s side faced a trip to Rennes and no doubt headed into the game full of confidence after picking up a huge 2-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this week.

However, it would be the Parisian outfit who were this time on the receiving end of the 2-0 scoreline.

Rennes would open their account for the day after 45 minutes through Gaetan Laborde. The hosts would then double their lead one minute into the second half via Flavien Tait.

And this is how the tie would finish, with PSG now having lost their first Ligue 1 game of the 2021/22 season.

Messi and co. struggle in front of goal

On the back of the game, some rather interesting stats have come to light concerning Lionel Messi and the rest of his PSG teammates.

Firstly, it has been revealed that Lionel Messi has now failed to score a single goal or provide a single assist in his first three Ligue 1 matches for PSG:


And, as revealed by statisticians Opta, PSG attempted 13 shots during the match with Rennes without putting one on target. This is their highest tally without registering a single shot on target in the same Ligue 1 game since Opta started collecting this data back in 2006/07:
