Kieran Trippier fuels the fire of a Manchester United January move with latest interview

Manchester United chase Kieran Trippier

One of the players that Manchester United were chasing this summer was former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier.

The now Atletico Madrid man was heavily linked with a move to Manchester, and had even reportedly begun house-hunting, but no move was ultimately forthcoming, and the Englishman remained with Diego Simeone in Spain.

Now 31 years old, the right-back has started 5 of Atletico Madrid’s 9 La Liga outings thus far, operating as a right-wing back for the most part. He has also appeared once in the Champions League, but lasted just 40 minutes as his side beat AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro.

While his move to Spain was seen by some as a step down, he has gone on to win his first major trophy under Simeone’s guidance, and proved that he remained as competent as ever during England’s Euro 2020 run to the final, where he deputised at both right and left back.

Trippier opens up on future

The 31 year old currently has just 18 months to run on his current deal in Madrid, and has already made his ideal future destination clear. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Trippier outlined his desire to return to the Premier League ahead of a move into coaching in the future.

The Englishman revealed  ‘I would love to play in the Premier League again.’ before suggesting that he would like to go into coaching alongside current Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

With Manchester United still in desperate need for a right-back, have they just been given the green light to try again in January, or has that ship sailed?
