Structural changes at Newcastle begin with sporting director search

Newcastle United have begin the process of leaping into the modernity as the club have taken its first steps in the search for a sporting director.

Under new consortium ownership (Public Investment Fund, RB Sports & Media, and PCP Capital Partners), the Magpies have begun considering candidates for the new role at St. James’ Park.

According to the Telegraph, whomever is eventually hired for the key role in the new regime will “lead the technical aspects of a new era for the club and work above whoever is chosen to replace manager Steve Bruce.”

Both Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi took in a training session yesterday in what can only be one of the more relaxing periods for the pair in the wake of the events surrounding the completed Newcastle takeover, but the pair must first take part in key decision making with the goal to “reduce the risk of expensive errors, and ensure some philosophical continuity should results prompt a change of manager or head coach.”

Four leading names for key Magpies role

As Newcastle begin the hunt for the clubs sporting director role, four names have emerged as the leading candidates to take up position in the Magpies hierarchical tree.

Ralf Rangnick, Michael Edwards, Frank McParland, and Jason Wilcox lead the shortlist of names that will be tasked with guiding the club both on and off the pitch moving forward.

Steve Bruce is all but guaranteed to be replaced and many feel – despite the respect he should be given – that his time is long overdue. And with the expected spending spree and footballing modernization on the pitch that the club need to go through in order to push up the Premier League ladder rapidly, the match between sporting director and new head coach must be perfect.

The Telegraph also stated the following regarding the evolving situation;

“Discussions between the various consortium members and their advisors are set to continue in the coming days and it has been stressed to Telegraph Sport that nobody should be ruled in or out at this stage.”
