Aston Villa fans will love what Lionel Messi said about Emiliano Martinez
Argentina hammer Uruguay
Argentina would face off with Uruguay in the early hours on Monday morning.
The South American outfits were facing off in a World Cup qualifying match.
Lionel Scaloni’s side headed into the game looking to continue their unbeaten streak in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, which had seen them win five and draw four previously.
Uruguay, on the other hand, were looking to gain some ground on the hosts, who sat three points ahead of them before kick-off.
When all was said and done, though, it would be Argentina who came away with a comfortable 3-0 win thanks to strikes from Lionel Messi, Rodrigo Dea Paul and Lautaro Martinez:
Lionel Messi became the first South American player to score 80 international goals as Argentina beat Uruguay 3-0 in their World Cup Qualifier.

Messi comments on Argentina & Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez
Though Messi, the highest-scoring South American in history, took many of the plaudits post-match, the Argentine would be quick to dish out some praise of his own.
A key part of Argentina’s resurgence of late has been the displays of Emiliano Martinez.
It’s now 7/9 clean sheets for Emi Martinez in an Argentina 🇦🇷 shirt since the Copa America 👏🏻
In 2020/21 he equalled the record for PL clean sheets in a single season wearing an Aston Villa shirt 👏🏻

And, when speaking post-match on Monday, Messi would be full of praise for the Aston Villa keeper, labelling him one of the best goalkeepers in the world:
“Fundamental. When the pressure is on he always responds. He did it again today. We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world and we are making the most of it.”
